Bah, why make it easier on myself?

Give it a try, it is a lot of fun.

It is kind of relaxing, except when the putty doesn't do what you want, or when you put a big fingerprint over something you just got "perfect". This leads to a lot of screaming and grumbling - definitely not relaxing then...

My first sculpts a few years ago were bad, but I can see improvement even in each of the ones that I'm working on right now. So there is hope. A lot of the technique is learning how to deal with the sculpting material. Green Stuff, ProCreate, and Super Sculpey all behave differently. You have some common techniques used in all, and some specifics for each material.

I thought I'd do this to avoid having to buy minis. That was not a good idea. This is in no way cheaper than buying a mini. Specially if you need multiples of something. I started calculating cost, including my time spent sculpting, and these miniatures are horribly expensive.

I might have to get into RTV casting to make many of these. Thankfully I don't need an army of Aspis, just a few.

Thanks guys. I've already started on the new sculpt, but it's big so I've had to rethink my sculpting strategy on it, as it will have to be mostly hollow.

We'll see how it turns out.

That is some great work. I have done some sculpting in this past but mostly so I had miniatures for super hero games. I am guilty of selecting my miniature and then making a character to fit that mini. The world is your oyster with these sculpts and I can't wait to see the next one.

I'm glad you like it. It was a fun idea to put to work for my new long term campaign. Of your players, I probably fall on the camp that prefers a system that doesn't bog down with this sort of stuff. The adventure is the game, anything that detracts from it is really a distraction IMO. What I found is that 4e already had a very simple way of doing this in the system (diseases). The leap to injuries was a very small one.

I am going to use this in my new campaign, in a modified manner. I'll let you know how it goes. If you end up using this system, or devise your own based on this idea please post your findings here. I'd love to hear how others modify this for their campaigns.

Jason, good to hear you enjoyed the game. I6 has always been such an inspiration for gaming that I've converted it to 3.0, 3.5 and 4e. My local gaming group has gone through it about 5 times in different editions. Interestingly enough we never really get tired of the awesomeness of the story.

The 4e game I prepared for DDXP was just a very, very, very short "highlights reel" of that wonderful adventure. I'm glad it served to inspire you to run the entire adventure. You will have a blast with it.

The idea for the "something cool" power cards began when I thought about one of our local players. He used to play a Paladin, and he had a little "tent" in front of him at our games. On the side facing the players and DM the tent had his character's name and some basic stats, AC, Init, etc. On the side that faced him, in big bold letters it said, "Smite you Fool!" It was a way for him not to forget to use one of his "cool" character abilities.

I took that as an inspiration. I've found since then that putting the "reminder" right in front of the players really helps in getting them out of their character sheets and into their characters.

I hope the cards serve you well. Come back here and let me know how it goes.

I got to play in one of those Ravenloft games at DDXP and took away two really important things. First, I had to run the original I6 module (which I am now doing) and second the Do Something Cool "powers." I think they bring so much to the table and really encourage players to get their heads in the game and out of the character sheets. I will definitely be using these going forward and hope that some of my players can do something as Epic as impaling Strahd with a staff head. Thanks Vic!
