Yep, that's the point of the exercise; a break from the usual while still affording some of the pleasures of a continuing campaign.

Dungeon Delve was the book. I used it to fill out some of my adventures and as a quick set up that I could tweak to the likings of my players and myself. I really do like long story arcs and think that fan support exists for that as well. The delve is a great diversion from a regular story but have a hard time doing it week in and week out.

You know, I don't play 4E currently (I run a 3.5 campaign) but I have to say the delve format is intriguing to me because of its limited nature. I like the idea of having a set number of battles and tying everything up with the capstone(?) fight at the end.

What was the name of the hardcover delve book that Wizards produced for the delve format?

Good read. Thank you for posting.

I really hate the idea of a mandatory dump stat. It almost seems mandatory anyway as every character seems to utilize this method. I find it my job as the DM to once in awhile challenge that character in the area he is deficient. It makes a better story and usually gets that player's creative juices flowing. It is a fine way to build a character but if you do it expect a negative to be a negative every so often in my game. I personally love to play a well rounded character and set myself up to take advantage of the +1 bump across the board after attaining paragon. Great info an the random thing we did that in first and second editions day and it led to a lot of rubbing stats in faces and while the world isn't fair role-playing games should be.

There are some amazing ideas here. I thought that the Encounters format was a smart idea and not the only way in which 4th Edition can be utilized. I just finished running a heroic tier campaign that was all delves, some of which were strung together and some of which were just stand alone. Now to the drawing board to write up Paragon tier. I think that filling in the party so that you are five deep is great as well. Great take. Thanks for writing it.
