I like lurkers because they often take my players off guard.
The brute is worth his salt with the refigured stat blocks. Enough punch to be paid attention to so controller, lurker, and artillery can get the job done. Of course I am saying a balance of roles works best, but the brute also adds thump to an encounter, especially if it gets to beating on the squishies. I also loved running a Solo lurker against my overconfident party of daring PC's.
I love the idea of skirmishers, although many of them feel a bit disappointing on the table. One of these days I'll sit down and work out some mechanics for one.
