Booo... Bad SF Dragon. Let's hear what your thoughts on it are . I really like it and think its a good update of the old class to 4e. I'll have to see it in action before giving it a big run-down.

    I'm bad

well from what I read through it, mind you I was in a hurry to get off my pc and go to bed at the time.
I was very impressed with it.

for a more runn down wait until I have more time to read it clearly.

but I do agree it is a good update of the kit/prc of old up to the 4e game.

This bladesinger is a welcome addition to any party. It is definitely a controller and a wizard class it can benefit from all of the previous feats that are released and will have more than adequate support instantly. The Bladesong power makes the class an excellent secondary striker and can clean up when combined with area attacks. Since it last until the end of the bladesinger's next turn use your action point while it is in effect and Kaboom! The bladespell power is an excellent mechanic that allows the character to attack in melee and effect at range from the same attack two separate targets. How much fun is that. The drow write up at the end was clever and makes me want to combine this character with the Bregan D'Arthe spy theme from the Neverwinter campaign (thanks to my buddy for pointing out that combo). You can take this class in so many directions, score one for WOTC.

I read it and have been discussing it with a few other Forums. The general concensus is either It looks interesting, lets see more! to Yuck! Why isn't this a sub-class of the Swordmage or Bard??! It's dumb and has no controller powers!!

My take on it is that it wasn't designed to fit 1 role 100% of the time like the Wizard or Invoker do. Instead, it spreads itself over 3 different roles: Controller, Defender, and Striker. With the Bladesong Utility and all the Wizard Powers based off of Dex, it screams Striker. Adding on the Arcane Strike power (which I'm assuming is going to be their thematic Power Strike) just adds to that role.

Since all their Bladesong spells produce an added effect, that makes me thing selective controller. Add in Wizard encounter powers and it doubles their Control capacity. And then you figure in their high (almost top defender AC), spamming MBAs, and ability to cast ranged/area spells without provoking OAs and you've got a solid defender.

Though I'll say it's seems very hard to break this class and use min/max options for it. It's special Bladesong powers only trigger on your turn, so Out-of-Turn attacks don't do anything special. This hinders, a bit, the idea of a MC-Swordmage and it's use of their Aegis power. On the good side, Swordmage does provide some interesting spells to the table and you can treat them as encounter powes (since the text specifically stats you treat Wizard encounter spells as Dailies, not other classes eno****er powers).

I'm really hopful of this class and excited to see more.

Yeah, it's one of those situations where you won't please everyone. On one hand, the community generally seemed to lament the use of class roles when 4e came out. Now that more builds are being released, that don't fit perfectly into a role, people begin to complain.

I think this kind of design is a good way to go. If you could imagine painting four colors on a sheet of paper. One blue, one red, one yellow, one green. This would represent your roles that pretty well fit in their own lane. Now, especially with this new design, imagine starting to blend some of those colors together to make new ones. That's how I see it, and that is a very good thing for any RPG.

Some people always allow their first reactions to something to be negative. There hasn't even been enough time for most people to even give this a try once, let alone several sessions to make a judgement. Does it hold it's own as a class and is it viable in it's role? Is it fun and balanced? Answer these and then if you see fit have at your negativity but keep in mind that it may just be your taste in characters or the style of game you play as well and it might be perfect for someone else in some other game. I like what I saw, and have a new adventure that I just finished and hope one of my group plays this class during one of the playtests.
