Camazotz (also Cama-Zotz, Sotz, Zotz) is an anthropomorphic, Mayan god of night, death, and sacrifice. Worshiped by a sect located in what is now Guatemala, Camazotz resembled a cross between a man and a bat (I went with "humanoid" over "magical beast"). One of the most prominent and commonly mentioned features of the Camazotz is "a nose the shape of a flint knife," and he is known for causing disease (specifically, rabies). His most famous story surround a visit by the Mayan hero twins, Hunahpu and Xbalanque, to the underworld, Xibalba. In a sporting contest, Camazotz beheaded Hunahpu, but Hunahpu borrowed a turtle’s head to continue the match, which the twins eventually won. After the match had ended, Xibalba was able to reattach Hunahpu’s head. The opposing team was amazed at the feat and asked them to demonstrate this power. They allowed the twins to dismember them, after which the twins returned home. Bad move. Just for that, Camazotz takes intelligence and wisdom penalties.

Oh, and Camzotz hates bugs. Try to work that into the encounter. I’ve provided a trait that’s appropriate in that regard, but it’s unlikely to be relevant. His hatred of bugs is his one redeeming trait. He’s responsible for protecting humanity from plague-carrying insects.

So, it’s time for a skirmisher, and Camazotz fits the bill. To view the stat block for Camazotz, click here: Camazotz stat block
